About

For the past nine years, I have been blogging over on Livejournal. But when the site was down for days due to a massive DDoS attack for the third time within the past several months, I figured it was time to pull up my roots and find a new home.

Currently, I am using WordPress to post various reviews of anime shows. My goal is to review every single show that has been subtitled from 2010 onwards…at least the first episode (and then later episodes that receive the thumbs-up). This includes not only weekly television series, but also specials and movies as well. I am currently migrating all of my older reviews over to WordPress, while concurrently putting up newer reviews, although I am always running chronically behind schedule.

My perspective may be different from the vast majority of anime viewers, simply because I am a generation older than most anime fans. Sure, I watched cartoons such as Battle of the Planets, Star Blazers and Robotech on television after school like everyone else. But it was not until watching Akira in the movie theater years later that I really started to take notice. For an idea of what I consider some of my favorite anime shows, here is an incomplete list: Haibane Renmei, Azumanga Daioh, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Read or Die, Paranoia Agent, Haruhi Suzumiya.

Over time, I hope to get all of my views and reviews organized. But that may take some time.

I’ve developed an interest in anime over the last couple of years, primarily from cable TV that had the .hack/sign, Full Metal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell and Naruto. In branching out to anime-specific sites like Fugishi, Exceed, and Anime44, I’ve been able to find a wide variety of shows that are very enjoyable and I count on blogs like this to get background information on what I might expect. Great job, keep up the good work!

One problem…I began watching the cable shows in dubbed mode, but now I watch the subbed versions exclusively because of what I find to be ‘terrible’ English dubbing in a majority of the instances. Maybe my first three were an aberration, but is English dubbing really that bad overall? I feel like I need to say ‘Gomenasai’ to my Japanese friends for even mentioning that I ever watch dubbed versions! End of rant. Go ‘Haiyore Nyaruko-san’!!!
