Anime Review: Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi OVA

Anime Review:
Hoshizora e Kakaru Hoshi OVA

What this is about: Watching all of the anime shows so you don’t have to! For more information about me and my reviews, click here for details on what I am reviewing.

Series Premise: Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi, or “Bridge to the Starry Skies”, is a weekly televised anime series aired during the Spring 2011 season, based on an erotic visual novel series of the same name. Teenaged Kazuma and his younger brother move to the remote countryside to live at a hot springs resort, where he meets up with several women. On December 21, 2011, an additional Original Video Animation episode was released.

Quick Spoiler-free Series set-up: It’s time for the spring school festival, and everyone is getting ready. Including horn-dog Daigo, who is letting hormones take control of his thoughts. As he lusts over pretty much all of the various women (and more, eww) in the series, he ends up getting caught up in one embarrassing situation after another.

My Impressions: Sorry I’ve been distracted with other hobbies, so my reviews have been falling further behind. But as I’ve expressed elsewhere, I really don’t care very much how far behind I am, I’m going to take my own sweet time at this, because rushing it would lessen the enjoyment. There’s plenty of blogs that put out reviews within the same week as when the show aired…this isn’t one of them.

But even that being said, a little bit of brevity can’t hurt to get the ball rolling, so I’m spending less time typing and more time watching.

So, cutting to the quick: Look, I’m not going to sugarcoat anything (as if I ever do): This could be the worst piece of shit of the entire season — not only in terms of content, but also in concept as well as clearly sub-par production values.

I had actually been holding off on writing up a proper review of this, because I wanted to spend some time putting together a long-winded riposte that ripped this abomination to shreds. But really, it’s not worth it, so why waste much of my time composing a multi-paragraph screed? I had already reviewed the first episode back in August, revealing Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi to be nothing more than a by-the-numbers, low-grade, totally-unoriginal harem anime that does nothing more than pander to the existing “erotic video game player” audience. If you really want to know my views on that type of show, go back and read that review, because this does nothing to change my opinions on the matter.

But what pushes this one beyond the envelope of tolerance into OH MY FUCKING GOD territory is when Daigo flips his hormonal lid when he comes across the underage little brother character dressed up “seductively” in a girl’s elementary school swimsuit. There was just so much very no in that little scene that I think I almost threw up a little watching it.

In general, I dislike fanservice for nothing more than the sake of fanservice.
In general, I hate harem-based shows that exist for nothing more than the harem.
So, by extension, I loathe fanservice-heavy harem-based anime shows. But if you seek out those type of shows, I might disapprove of your choice in entertainment, and that’s your choice.
But this show in particular, on the other hand… Not only is it bad, but if you watch it, you should feel bad. And you might want to consider getting professional help.

    • Angry Anime Bitches are Angry: “SHIT, SPEAKING OF THE KID-WHAT THE HELL? WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT OH GOD. I DON’T EVEN-NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!” – Angry Anime Bitches
    • “Okay it was a fun episode indeed. no more jelly and awkward moment. Just like Akane Iro ni Somaru Saka, they make up the anime version with an OVA, though this one is slightly better than Akasaka…” – Hoshi no Sekai
    • Aisle H is unimpressed: “HoshiKaka’s OVA starts out promising, with 2 nude scenes in the first 8 minutes… and then they just forgot to close the deal. Several other girls get ecchi scenes later in the OVA, but there aren’t any nipples. Granted, I didn’t have high expectations. It kind of makes sense that the OVA is half-assed.” – Aisle H
