Anime Review: Grinding…grinding…grinding…

I’m still slowly but surely grinding away at watching and reviewing various anime series, specials and movies. As always, ridiculously behind schedule but them’s the breaks. I thought it might be a good idea to give a quick status update.

I’m in the process of watching (and reviewing) every anime show from the beginning of 2010 that has been subtitled into English. For multi-episode series, I start with the first episode, and if it gets a thumbs-up I continue on to the second episode, and so forth and so on. For the strong majority of shows, some fan group subtitles them within a matter of days of release. But for some movies, specials, and really obscure stuff, it may take weeks…months…sometimes years. And sometimes never at all.

So, here’s what I have left to review for 2010 and 2011, broken down by season. For most of the 2010 and early 2011 stuff, it’s because it has only recently become available, or I just recently found it:

              • Fall 2011 Season (September 22, 2011 to December 21, 2011):

                • New stuff that I haven’t watched yet:
                  • EVERYTHING!!! Everything, dammit!
                • As you can see, I definitely have my work cut out for me. And this does not count the stuff that may get subtitled in the next few months that aren’t even on my radar.

                  • As soon as I finish up all of the 2010 stuff listed above, I’ll re-visit my season-by-season recommendations with a comprehensive summary list of everything I reviewed by each season, followed by a reconsideration of my “Top 20 Best of 2010” and “Worst 20 of 2010” lists as well.
                  • I’m still working my way through the last of the Winter 2011 shows, and I’m in the middle of the Spring 2011 shows, plugging away at ’em slowly but surely.
                  • I’m about 75% of the way through watching the first episodes of the Summer 2011 shows and I’ll be posting my “Best to Worst” recommendation list shortly (about 1 to 2 weeks from now).
                  • Then it’s on to my preview edition of the Fall 2011 Season (also about 1 to 2 weeks from now), and I’ll start grinding away at those shows as well.
                  • And then, sometime in early 2012, after it’s all said and done, my final Best and Worst lists for 2011.

As far as 2012 and beyond goes, I’m definitely looking into ways to streamline the whole review procedure, because this just plain takes up too much damn time. More summary reviews, and less details for the second episodes and beyond. I’ll need to free up more time, especially if my “real life” plans I’m thinking about come to fruition.

So, what do you think, sirs? This is just a quick little update (as much for my benefit as anyone else) to give an idea of what to expect in the next couple months. Got dozens and dozens of shows spooled up and ready to go. Time to get crackin’!
