Detective Conan Magic File #4: Osaka Okonomiyaki Odyssey
What this is about: I made the promise that I would review every new subtitled anime show (excluding blatant yaoi and/or porn) released during the Spring, Summer and Fall 2010 seasons, so now I am going back to review a handful of shows that I missed over the past few months for one reason or another. This time around, it’s Detective Conan: Magic File #4, a special episode to accompany the 2010 movie, aired on April 17, 2010.
tl;dr review: Delay after delay prevents Conan from eating lunch; yeah, it’s about as exciting as it sounds.

Episode Summary: Following the exciting events from the Detective Conan: Lost Ship in the Sky movie, which I reviewed positively, Conan spends the night with Heiji, then wakes up the next day with plenty of time to catch a special Osaka lunch before taking the train back home. But a comedy of errors turn a quick trip into several hours (chatty neighbor, missed connections, surprise quiz, crossing a busy street, a lost baby), and he ends up leaving for home hungry.
My Thoughts: Just sort of a funny epilogue to the movie, a light-hearted extra for the fans. I’m not a big Detective Conan fan to begin with, although I don’t dislike the show, either; it’s just sort of…there. As such, this extra episode is okay, I guess (a tad boring), but not really worthwhile unless you’re interested in Conan already. But if you’re not a fan, there isn’t anything special to grab you, either. And as such, a slight thumbs-down.
The last of the un-reviewed 2010 shows, I swear!: Beelzebub OVA, Chi’s Sweet Home OVA, Detective Conan OVA: Kid in Trap Island
