Anime Review in a Minute:
Arakawa Under the Bridge x Bridge (Season 2) Episode 1
Anime Review in a Minute: What this is all about. — Watching all the anime shows so you don’t HAVE to!
tl;dr review: Recruit and Nino exchange houses; Annual Under the Bridge marathon leads to photo finish.
The Skinny: Recruit continues his courtship of Nino, now that he has comfortably settled in to life as a resident with the other homeless misfits under the bridge. Nino keeps having the same unfathomable dream, sleepwalking into Recruit’s ‘penthouse’, so Recruit slyly offers for her to move in to his place. In a typical misunderstanding, she takes it to mean that they should switch places, and readily agrees. While settling in to his new digs, he discovers a small, fancy dress, a memento from her past. During baseball practice the next day, Sister hits a ball ‘out of the park’ and Recruit goes to find it, where he is met by an Amazon warrior. All the guys participate in the annual Under the Bridge marathon; perennial Shiro is running away with it…until he runs out of white powder and retreats. It comes down to a neck-and-neck race between Recruit and Hoshi at the tape, when Shiro makes and amazing comeback at the last moment, securing first place.

My Thoughts: Picking up right where the first season left off, as if no time has passed. The original Spring 2010 earned a “B+” grade from me, a little bit of a pleasant surprise to be honest. I expected lots of wacky comedy and quick jokes, but did not expect that there would be an actual plot and story interweaved through it all. As far as plot development goes, this first episode doesn’t have much, it’s mostly an opportunity to re-introduce all of the characters. But there are ominous hints of what we can expect in the future with Nino’s recurring dream (her parents leaving on a rocket ship), Recruit finding a child-size dress in her drawers, and the new character, the Amazon Warrior, making a brief cameo. The first season was about Recruit; I hope that the second season will be an examination of Nino as we unlock the mystery of her past.
So far, it’s more of the same — if you enjoyed the first season, you should enjoy this just as much.
