Anime Review in a Minute:
To Aru Majutsu no Index Season 2 Episode 1
Anime Review in a Minute: What this is all about. — Watching all the anime shows so you don’t HAVE to!
tl;dr review: Hapless Touma has to run around to save Index…again; Second verse, same as the first.
The Skinny: Picking up after where the first series left off, Touma is furiously trying to finish his homework on the day before school starts, but is interrupted when a mysterious suited man kidnaps Index. He runs all over town trying to find her, meeting a bashful Mikasa in the process…but no time for that, he has Index to save! At the top of the building, Bad Guy with Silly Arm-Crossbow explains that he is in search of one of the forbidden volumes locked inside Index’s mind, so that he can save his girl. When he tries to access the locked-away tome, it proves to powerful for him. Touma rushes in and dissipates the magic with his hand, and offers to do the same to save Bad Guy’s unfortunate loved one.

My Thoughts: Watching this episode, I’m reminded of all the things I *didn’t* like about the first series: Index is still a useless lump of moe; Touma remains thoroughly unlikeable and whiny about every little thing; Mikasa has been reduced to a puddle of love-struck mush (totally out of character) whenever she meets Touma; And worst of all, the long-winded, unnecessary soliloquies that Touma expounds upon during every single battle! I also spent half the time trying to remember where the last series left off, what all the characters were doing, and even what the main plot was supposed to be — after all, the first series strayed greatly from the original storyline, abandoning Index to a bunch of stupid side-stories pretty early on. All-in-all, this episode was no different from the earlier ones — which for me, were a disappointment.
I *may* still continue to watch the series because I already have quite a bit invested in the story and the characters (particularly Railgun). But I’m not going to blog about it, and I certainly cannot recommend it. Less Index, more Railgun, please.
