Anime Review in a Minute:
Shukufuku no Campanella Episode 1
Anime Review in a Minute: What this is all about.
tl;dr review: Everyone introduces everyone to everyone; Energy from a meteor shower awakens a magical girl.
The Skinny: In a pink-and-blue-pastel fantasy world, in the bustling town of Eltaria, Leicester and his long-time friend Carina, both members of the Oasis Clan, begin their happy day. In short order they meet a travelling puppeteer named Agnes Boulange, a ravishing holy knight named Chelsea Arcot, and the neighborhood twins Ritos and Salsa Tortilla — and by the end of the day Leicester is surrounded by seven nubile women. They head up to the top of the church tower to observe the special meteor shower, when one of the meteors (composed of a special energy called Eru) strikes the tower. Leicester runs over to find out what happened, and stumbles across a cute female automaton, who awakens and calls him “Papa”.
My Thoughts: This episode is nothing but introductions, as the male lead suddenly finds himself surrounded by a gaggle of beautiful women. Can you say, “Harem anime?” I knew you could! Based on an erotic video game, there’s clearly the siren wolf-call of eroticism hidden away in the setting and plot (as well as a couple of rather awkward moments of loli fanservice and MILF-action), but as far as how this game is adapted as an anime, it certainly must be tamed waaaaaay down, except for a couple of short scenes this could pass for G-rated material. Plus the bright powder blue and pink colors, light-hearted upbeat tone and cutesy bouncy plot more reminiscent of a preteen shoujo show, I’m scratching my head who exactly this show is aimed at. The only actual “plot” introduced in the first episode is the awakening of the magical girl, and I gotta hunch we may be in for a Pinocchio-type story…with a harem anime setting. Ahem.
It all seems terribly inoffensive and pretty…but also at the same time terribly *boring*. I don’t have a hate-on for this show like others I’ve given the thumbs-down, but also no desire to see any more, either.
