Anime Review in a Minute:
Mitsudomoe Episode 1
Anime Review in a Minute: What this is all about.
tl;dr review: Triplet sixth-graders torment their hapless new teacher; Penis and nipple jokes abound.
The Skinny: It’s the first day on the job for Yabe Satoshi, the new teacher at the school. Unfortunately, he soon learns that his sixth-grade class contains the notorious Marui triplets — within minutes they turn the classroom into a battlefield. Mitsuba is a sadist, Futuba is a pervert with spunk, and Hitoha is quiet and taciturn with her faced buried in books. Together they make Satoshi’s existence a living hell. First, they turn an introductory game of musical chairs into pure chaos; then they hatch a plan to knock him in the nuts so he can visit the school nurse that he has taken a shine on; finally they name the class hamster “Nipple” causing endless embarrassing sexual innuendo and terrible misunderstandings with the nurse.
My Thoughts: Perhaps the most mean-spirited anime show I can recall ever watching. The three girls are absolute terrors, but throw in the meek and submissive teacher that allows himself to be victimized doesn’t help matters, either. Given the girls’ ages, there is a certain, um, “innocence” in their hard-nosed sexual humor in a way that only twelve-year-olds can be, throwing around fairly vile sexual humor in ways they don’t fully understand but leave adults like me squirming. I mean, should I find this funny, or should I be uncomfortable with pre-pubescent girls talking about massaging nipples, even when it doesn’t mean what they say? I dunno, this might be must a bit too raw for me.
One thing is for certain: these kids need to lay off the caffeine. Please. And if there ever was a case for Ritalin, this is it.
Final note: The opening sequence is just insanely strident. I fear that if I have to watch it every week, I’ll go nuts.

The Verdict: – Mean-spirited anime is mean.
I’m willing to give the show a shot with one or two more episodes, but I’m less-than-hopeful that I’ll be able to survive through the whole run. As a general rule, I prefer my humor a bit more…subtle. And this show has about as much subtlety as having your brain smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick.
