Anime Review in a Minute:
Yondemasuyo Azazel-san

tl;dr review: Fierce demons from the underworld trapped in cute super-deformed bodies in the real world; Mmmm, beef curry…

The Skinny: In the underworld, Azazel is a minor yet powerful demon that terrorizes the humans that summon him. But when he is summoned by the bookish Rinko, Azazel finds himself trapped within a special barrier set up by Rinko’s boss Akutabe that turns him into a harmless little super-deformed cutie-pie. Angry that Rinko summoned him “just for practice”, Azazel informs her that some other demons may not take such an act so lightly; Rinko blows him off and sets him to task cleaning the windows. Thinking it might take a while, she decides to also summon Beezlebub as well to help Azazel, but gets the incantation wrong and calls Moloch instead…in super-deformed bull form. Moloch, horrified at his fate, demands a sacrifice — so Rinko presents him with a plate of beef curry. Disgusted, Moloch rejects the offering and turns Rinko into a cow. Akutabe arrives just in time scares the living bejeezus out of the demons, forcing Moloch to eat the curry returning Rinko to normal. Dejected and bested, the two demons return to the underworld, and Akutabe chides Rinko for her carelessness.

My Thoughts: Hooray, after being forced to sit through xxxHolic, I get to cleanse my palette with this short special! Packaged with special editions of the manga, it’s just a brief (less than ten minutes) gag show, and pretty damn funny. Proof that in Japan, you can make anything cute and adorable…even evil demons from the underworld.

The “fake previews” are even more outrageous than the show, and the good news is that it’s not just fantasy. A second, longer OVA is planned for this fall. Oh, poor little Azazel-san, when will you learn?
